Improve Asthma Symptoms

I am always advising clients to follow a diet programme that is high protein and low G.I. (glycemic index) alongside their fitness training. There are many reasons for this, however for the purposes of this blog I’m focusing on the positive effects it can have on asthma sufferers. There is a link attached to title of this blog for the source of this information but to break it down simply for you. A study presented at the European Respiratory Society International Congress examined the relationship between asthma, diet and exercise. Scientists from Copenhagen randomly placed patients into one of 4 groups as follows:

1) High protein with low GI

2) High intensity exercise 3 x weekly

3) High intensity exercise and high protein with low G.I. diet

4) Control Group

The study took place over 8 weeks and the end results were that those who took part in both the exercise regime and followed the recommended diet rated their asthma symptom score 50% better compared to the control group. So if you are an asthma sufferer taking regular exercise and eating a healthy, well balanced, high protein diet can help manage your symptoms.
